James Neill “Jim”
Keng, 68, of La Porte, Texas passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016
at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown, Texas.
Jim was born June 29, 1948 in Beeville, Texas, the son of Morris
Torno Keng and Lois Elaine Conrad Keng. He was a resident of La
Porte for 19 years and formerly of Pasadena, Texas. Jim was the
owner and operator of Keng Remodeling Inc. for 35 years, also past
president of the Texas Center and member of the Pasadena - Deer Park
Racing Pigeon Club. Jim was an avid sports fan, especially when his
son and grandchildren played sports.
Jim is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda B. Keng of La Porte,
Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Aaron and Angel Keng of
Pasadena,Texas; daughter, Lt. Colonel Shawn Ayers of Hurlburt Field,
Florida; sister Gayla Keng of Corpus Chris:, Texas; step-sisters and
brother-in-law, Joy and Pat Kotal of Tomball, Texas and Karin
Stork-Whitson of PA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bob and Vickie
Barker of Pasadena, Texas.
“Jimpa” has three grandchildren: Chase Keng, Kristin Keng and Dylan
Ayers.
Memorial Service will be 3:00 pm Saturday December 3, 2016 at the
Crowder Funeral Home, 111 East Medical Center Blvd. Webster, Texas,
with Rev. Bill Cole, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest that memorials
be made to the American Cancer Society, SPCA or the Texas Center
Ladies Auxiliary Scholarship Fund in Jim’s name. |
Carol Anne Maedgen

Carol Anne Maedgen
passed away on March 6, 2016. She was born in Houston,
Texas on September 23, 1946. Carol grew up in Pasadena,
Texas and graduated from South Houston High School. She
worked and retired from the social security
administration in Pasadena, Texas. Carol was active at
the La Porte Senior Center where she enjoyed playing
games and spending time with friends. She especially
enjoyed spending time with her sister, her niece and
nephews, and their families. She was affectionately
known as “Aunt Carol” to many people. Her dogs and cat
held a special place in her heart.
Carol is preceded
in death by her father, Raymond Maedgen, mother,
Patricia Maedgen, and brother, Mike Maedgen. She is
survived by her sister, Dorothy Philpot, and numerous
relatives and friends.
A memorial service
will be held at 2pm on Friday, March 11, 2016 at
Bayshore Baptist Church in La Porte, TX. Those wishing

Frederick
“Blackie” Manchaca, born June 30, 1947 to Vernon Frederick &
Bennie Manchaca in Pasadena, Texas. Passed away November 17,
2016 in The Woodlands, Texas at the age of 69 years. Frederick
was a member of the Conroe Masonic Lodge #748.
His loving family includes wife of 32 years, Vicki Manchaca;
children, Vicki Frank & husband Darrell, Richard Manchaca,
Marvin Cook & wife Brandy; sister, Bonnie Hightower; Eight
grandchildren, Dillon Frank,
Mikayla Frank, Montana Freudiger, Bradly Holland, Alex Cook,
Vicki Cook, Shana Bradley, Jessica Fortenberry, Four great
grandchildren, Sophia Bradley, Elijah Fortenberry, Kayley
Fortenberry and Audrey Fortenberry.
Frederick is preceded in death by his Parents and Mother in Law,
Maggie Hooks.
A visitation will be held from 5pm till 7pm Saturday, November 19,

A Celebration of Frederick’s Life will begin 10 am Sunday, November
20, 2016 also at Pace Funeral Home with Pastor James White

Michael G. Rankin

Michael G. Rankin passed away
at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown, Texas, February 27th.
He is survived by his wife Patricia, son Bruce, daughter Crystal,
grandchildren J.C., Jessica and Christina, and several
great-grandchildren. Michael was retired from Union Carbide-Dow
Chemical, and was a volunteer Hazmat/Fire Fighter. Mr. Rankin was a
member of Bayshore Baptist Church.
Grave Site services will be at the La Porte Cemetery on Thursday

Steve Olson
1945-2016
Steve Olson, longtime resident
of La Porte and LPISD teacher, died suddenly on September 6th. He
was on vacation and hiking in the Manistee National Forest in
Michigan when he was struck by lightning. Steve was born in Los
Angeles in 1945 to Ray and Lorraine Olson. The oldest of three, his
two sisters still live in California. Steve received his bachelor
degree in literature from the University of California Santa
Barbara. He went on to receive his master of divinity from Yale
University and was ordained in the United Church of Christ. Steve
met Sue (Ritchie) Olson at Plainfield United Church of Christ in
Illinois. They married in 1973. They had a daughter, Allison, and a
son, Elye. Steve was called to be the pastor of La Porte Community
Church and the family moved to La Porte in 1979. In 1981, Steve made
a career change to teaching. He received his master of education
from University of Houston Clear Lake and went on to teach for 22
years. Steve taught high school English and philosophy and coached
the La Porte Academic Decathlon Team. Mr. Olson, as his students
knew him, taught well over 1,000 kids during his career. An
inspiring and beloved teacher, Mr. Olson encouraged students to
articulate their opinions, think critically, and exceed
expectations. Mr. Olson became very involved in Advanced Placement,
grading exams every summer and writing a book in collaboration with
a colleague on AP preparation. Steve retired in 2009. An expert
birdwatcher, Steve enjoyed more time for hiking and camping in his
retirement. He continued in service to the community as a regular
volunteer at Baylor St. Luke’s Hospital where he had just reached
five years of service.
Steve is survived by his wife, Sue, who still lives in their home in
La Porte. Allison Orlina and her husband, Joel, live in Clear Lake
with their two children, Marisol and Maxwell. Elye Olson and his
wife, Katrina, live in Chicago with their three children, Nadia,
Efren, and Katia. An adventurous grandfather, “Poppy” loved taking
his grandchildren on outings to parks, the beach, and museums. Steve
will be very much missed by his family but also by the many, many
former students and congregants that he inspired over the course of
his career.
A Memorial Celebration of Life for Steve will be held Saturday,
November 5th, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at La Porte Community Church, 202
South First Street, La Porte, Texas 77571. A reception will follow
the service. All are welcome. |
Joe Reese Thomas III
December 25, 1947 - October 12, 2016
Joe Reese Thomas III, a resident of Holiday Lakes, Goodrich,
Texas passed away on October 12, 2016. Joe was born in La
Porte, December 25, 1947 to Bessie Mae (Cardwell) and Joe Reese
Thomas, Jr. of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by a
sister, Rebecca "Becky" Padgett of Dayton, Texas; nephews,
Robert "Bobby" Padgett, Jr. and his wife Rene, of Dayton, Texas;
and Joey Padgett and his wife Jennie, of Cleveland, Texas. He
is also survived by his grand-nephews and nieces: Ryan, Paige,
Wyatt, and Cheyenne Padgett.
Gravesite services will be held Sunday at 3:30pm, November 13,
2016 at the La Porte Cemetery on 8th Street, La Porte. The
service will be officiated by Pastor, Ben Rosenberger of the
Bayshore Baptist Church, La Porte, Texas. |

Ella “Ellie” Mae Trujillo
Ella (“Ellie”) Mae
Trujillo 1943 – 2016
Ellie, a longtime resident
of La Porte, Texas, went to be with the Lord on May 5, 2016.
Ellie was born October 28, 1943 to William and Virginia Lange in
Chattanooga, Tennessee. Ellie retired from La Porte Independent
School District after 20+ years of service, but continued to
volunteer at the La Porte Elementary School library and book
fairs for many years after retirement. Ellie also spent several
hours each week volunteering at the Gilmore Elementary School
library, sharing her passionate love of reading with every child
she met. Ellie is survived by her loving daughters, or the three
angels as she called them: Tana Trujillo Deshayes of Humble,
Texas; Lori Trujillo Lewis and husband Casey of Huffman, Texas;
and Alyssa Trujillo O’Brien and husband Michael of League City,
Texas. Ellie had seven grandchildren and was a devoted and
loving “Mammaw” to each: Matthew and Aiden Deshayes; Laynie and
Casen Lewis; and Brennan, Blake and Ainsley O’Brien. Services
will begin at 6:00pm on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Paul U. Lee
Funeral Home, 201 S. 3rd St., La Porte, Texas 77571 with
visitation one hour prior to service. Following the services, a
“Life Celebration” will be held at the Fraternal Order of
Eagles, 803 S. 8th St., La Porte, Texas 77571. In honor and
tribute to Ellie’s love of reading, and in lieu of flowers,

Randell "Randy" I. Wolf
Randell Ian Wolf (Randy) died
unexpectedly at the age of 54 on March 13, 2016. He was born October
24, 1961 in Houston, TX. He was a long time resident of La Porte,
and a 1980 graduate of La Porte High School, he also attended San
Jacinto Junior College where he proudly earned his Auto Mechanic
Certification. He was a hard working mechanic who had a passion for
VW Beetles, NASCAR and a strong love for his family, particularly
his nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
He was a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend. Along with his twin
sister, he was the youngest of seven children. He is preceded in
death by his parents Edward and Madalye Wolf. He is survived by his
six brothers and sisters Lawretta Foots and husband Walter, Lawrence
Mabe and wife Pamela, Edward PrestonWolf Jr., Emarita Busic,
Melvinia Varns and husband Steve, and his twin sister Marnell
Gillespie and husband David, 10 nieces and 7 nephews, 21 great
nieces and nephews, and many cousins and friends, such as Ed
Bowerman, Mike Wolf, Johnny Ryan, and Eddie Meza just to name a few,
and his beloved faithful poodles Ginger and Mary Ann.
In celebration of his life, a Memorial Service, officiated by Deacon
Hector Cantu will be said Saturday March 19th at 2:00pm at St. Mary
of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 816 Park Ave. La
Porte, TX 77571. A reception will follow in the church hall.
